Product Configurator
Alexander Moore has developed a Product Configurator addon.
Product Configurator may be used wherever the final product is 'custom made'. There is a numerous application that can be used like garage doors, custom machinery, travel packages etc. For each case a different User Interface (screen) is developed.
Typically it affects the following business processes:
A. Sales Process
Sales staff (eg sales engineer) during Sales Order/ Quotation defines the final customized 'Product' based upon certain selections (like color, height, weight, item components etc).
Constraints are also considered, eg not all sales item can be chosen for a specific configuration. Or specific components cannot be chosen due to technical reasons (eg a moter type cannot be used for more than a specific weight).
B. Pricing/ Costing
At the stage of developing the Sales Order is also developed the Sales/ Quotation price. At this stage is possible to have a calculation of the Final Product Costing. This provides management with a gross margin estimation at an early stage.
C. Production
Product Configurator can also develop custom BOM's related to each unique Sales Order. These BOM's (that include all raw materials, semi final material, labor, overhead expenses) are used to automatically develop Production Orders. In other words only with the Sales Order the Product Configurator issues Production Orders that leads to increased productivity.
